Infants requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) are transported to Hasbro Children's Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), located on the same campus as Women & Infants Hospital (accessible via a series of tunnels to/from Women & Infants Hospital). As our infants are admitted for ECMO, a few of our neonatal-perinatal medicine fellows and an attending neonatologist visit the PICU, where bedside teaching is conducted. Dr. Julie Monteagudo, Pediatric Surgeon and Director of Neonatal and Pediatric ECMO, has played an integral role in making the ECMO experience even more robust.
